About PSIR 2015

Following the success of the previous Practical Social and Industrial Symposium 2014 which have received overwhelming support from staff across different disciplines, the Research Support Unit (RSU) intends to expand the scope of this Symposium and organise the second Practical Social and Industrial Research (PSIR) Symposium.


The aim of the Symposium is to provide a platform for researchers and practitioners in vocational education and training to share and exchange their knowledge and experience with one another.


The main theme of the Symposium is “Taking Skills to the Next Level”, while the three sub-themes are Vocational Education and Training, Social Innovation for Ageing Population, & Environment and Sustainability.

Keynote Speakers

To stimulate exchange of ideas, knowledge and experience during the PSIR Symposium, two keynote speakers are invited to share their experience and insights in conducting applied research in the academia and the industry. Details are as follows.

and the practical implications

Prof Georges HALPERN
Visiting Professor, Department of Biomedical Sciences, City University of Hong Kong

Prof Halpern is a Medical Doctor in Internal Medicine & Allergy/Immunology, a Commander in the French National Order of the Mérite Agricole, and an outside consultant for the World Health Organisation. He is an expert of environment public health issues, psychopharmacology and positive role of pleasure.

In his keynote speech, Prof Halpern will share his experience of conducting applied research in the past decades.

How to innovate and make successful business
Mr Eric YIM
Founder and Chief Designer, POSH Office Systems (HK) Limited
Member, Vocational Training Council

Mr Yim is an architect-turned-furniture designer and a successful industrialist. He has successfully built POSH from a small local business to an international band. POSH has obtained the “Outstanding Enterprise in Office Furniture Industry” from Hong Kong Business in 2006 and the “Hong Kong Top Brand Award” from Hong Kong Brand Development Council in 2010.

Mr. Yim will talk about his tips of innovating new products and leading a company to success.
